Ron "Pig pen" McKernon was always my fave ...I have an oil painting of him by a famous artist, Bob Piersanti, I will cherish forever...love on PigPen...his version of 'it hurts me too" on Europe '72 is absolutely superb!

@angelicboy66: You couldn't be more right bud! I got the remastered DVD set of "Woodstock" and I'd like to line up everyone who took part in adding this crappy performance to the bonus disc and hit them with a baseball bat! The band went on with this crap for over 30 MINUTES! They just kept trying and trying to get this song off the ground and they NEVER DID! If you watch it in it's entirety, it becomes a game, to see how long you can actually last. WHAT A WASTE OF SPACE!

According to legend, the Grateful Dead were tripping on LSD during their performance at Woodstock. That would not have included Pig Pen, who didn't like acid. People who attended said that the Dead played great stuff offstage at the Hog Farm tent, which was serving as a trips hospital. I was in Europe that summer, and didn't attend. My girlfriend did. My college roommate did also, and broke out some Woodstock Sunshine at the Harpur College concert which was released at Dick's Pick No. 8.

Jerry Garcia said " drugs are not the problem other stuff is".

I have never understood the appeal of the Dead.....I bought Anthem of the Sun when it was first released and found it lacking in quality and years later I listened to it again and it's still bad!. I too have the extended Woodstock DVD and 37 minutes of Turn on Your Lovelight is probably the most tedious and wasteful 37 mins of music that I have ever heard. People say that they are a trippy band but I have listened to them on acid and no I'm afraid that the Dead just don't cut it for me.

I respect the Dead for their taste. They pick some great songs to cover and I'm sure this was fun to see at Woodstock with everyone having a great time and high as fuck.

But honestly their covers are always completely watered down and soulless. Listen to the Bobby Band version and compare it to this. They drain all the funk out of it the way only arrhythmic hippies can.

Antham of the Sun was the first album I ever bought as a young teenager...which later lead to acid trips and the like...LOL...you ain't a DeaD HEAD IF YOU DON'T GET IT...o_O,...Poppawoof

@Joeloflunik Songs like The Stranger (Two Souls in Communion), Lady with a Fan, Looks Like Rain, Reuben and Cerise, Scarlet Begonias, Brokedown Palace, Throwing Stones....just to name a few, these songs are the SOUL of the Grateful Dead. I like this song, and some of the blues stuff is better than others. I was the same way, when I was in school I bought Dead CDs and didnt like em. Later on, I just started listening to all the songs and so many are amazing. You don't need to be trippin.

  14. ledZep342 says:

@Joeloflunik Yea, I too have the extended DVD, and Turn on Your Lovelight is interesting, I watched all 37 minutes of it, but it's kinda to long and dragged out, but interesting.

  15. Joeloflunik says:

@Huskybeast00 Ok thanks for that, I will find the songs and give them a listern...the Dead deserve another chance. Cheers

  16. Joeloflunik says:

@ledZep342 Yes too long...might be OK if it was about 10-12 mins long max

  17. ledZep342 says:

@Joeloflunik Yea, well, it is still interesting!

    Wow dude,

that must've been cool. The 60s were a lot of fun for some folks no doubt. Sure wish more of those folks had held their ground on all the social and environmental issues they stood up for back then.Don't worry, I'll never stop loving you Mom and Dad. Mostly just sayin' cuz this is YouTube and that's what all the kids are doing these days...
