your right he didn't start using bolt guitar until 1994, and his playing is horrible here.. wasn't that bad in 93

the dead did, in fact, play the omni on this date in 1993, but "samson and delilah" was NOT the first set opener, it was the second set opener. this is another show, probably 1995.

i feel bad saying this but jerrys playing tempered like this is still some of my favourite dead material " power under control" but the reality is drugs etc... bittersweet.

The lack of guitar chops was more from the Beetis than anything else. Persian didn't help, but the Beetis started screwing with the nerves in his left hand. I read about it Blair Jackson's Garcia biography. On the slower numbers where dexterity wasn't as critical, I thought he still played some really cool shit. Soulful as hell too in the singing...when he could remember the lyrics. Not all bad.

this is 95 and Jerry debuted the bolt in mid 93

ok now that I read all the comments I agree this was not at the Omni in Atlanta, because I remember Vince Welnick played his keyboards on the left side of the stage (stage right) on those three nights in Atlanta that year, also I was at those shows and was 17, and the balcony's went straight up vertical there (very high) which made for magnificent accoustics - they were ON FIRE and they did Liberty first night and the third night, and Vince wailed Teenage Wasteland 2nd night

i thought bruce hornsby played keys on that tour

i am pretty sure this is march of 1995...also pretty sure it was a second set opener, and fairly certain this IS the omni...but i can't be certain...i am getting old and my memory is not what it should be thanks to the good ole days....

  14. MsCotton74 says:

hornsby played through 92 i believe..

This was the opener for the Second Set on 21 Mar 1993. One of the most outstanding shows of '93, the beginning of the Tour. The Band was fully rested from several months at home. Jerry's last guitar, "Lightning Bolt" was introduced in September 1993 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, at the end of the Tour...
