"Mama Tried (rhythm Chop Tutorial For Space Freely) Video

Bob Weir

The following is a break down video tutorial by request for my U-tube Freind "Space Freely". A fellow guitar player, and singer. He saw a clip I did last March where I did an into, using a Bob Weir style of playing. He was wondering about the color and motion of rhythm chops I'm doing over the basic 3 chord progression during the verses of Mama Tried. This is the kind of colorations and motions that Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead is so "one of a kind" for and makes him one of the most distinct rhythm guitarist in rock and roll. His brilliant rhythm chops is what really made Jerry's lead guitar work stick out so well, besides the genius of Jerry himself. As I followed the dead over the years I discovered that some of what I thought was all Jerry was actually Bob's playing dancing all around which really made the two sound so magical together.

    Hey, brother, i just now saw this...thanks for taking the time to break it down the way you did. I'll be studying this and practicing, practicing, practicing over the next few days/weeks...however long it takes. One of the reasons it appealed to me so much was the fact that it reminded me of Bob Weir's vocabulary. Thanks again and keep on keepin on. (~);}

    Love the "Steal Your Face" at the end of your statement's, & so appreciate that you get the Bob Weir color and motion technique! I found out in the 80's from my guitar player in my band back then. He graduated in 1987 from Guitar Institute in Hollywood, he told of the Weir and Garcia techniques as part of the required agenda at school. So he passed it on to me. Many don't know but Bob Weir plays the fuck out of his guitar, and it's genius! So I appreciate that you spotted that!! (~);}
